has reduced its precept this year from £6,000 to £5,800.

Police Crime Report:  In December there
was one crime of burglary non-dwelling in Thurton. In November there was one
other crime. In recent months there have been a number of burglaries in this
area. Parishioners are advise to secure their property including outbuildings.

Police new non-emergency telephone number: 101. What is the difference
between 101 and 999? You should continue to call 999 when it is an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, someone suspected of a crime is nearby, when there is danger to life or when violence is being used or threatened. To contact the police for any
other reason, call 101. Calls cost 15p.

Road Safety A146 Road Safety -Thurton Parish Council
bid for a Vehicle Activated Sign.

it is to site a Vehicle Activated Sign on the North side of Thurton for traffic
coming from Norwich.

Yellow Lines Ashby Road. The Parish Council have asked
Norfolk County Council to investigate why there is a break in the yellow lines
opposite the school. The County Council are checking legal papers to find out
the reason.

Fly-tipping. It was recently pointed out that people
have paid contractors to dispose of waste which subsequently has been
fly-tipped. On investigation the fly-tipped waste has been traced back to a household
and the householder has been prosecuted. Parishioners are therefore advised to
be careful who they trust to dispose of their waste.

Highway Rangers. The following jobs were recently carried out by Norfolk County Council Highway Rangers at the request of Thurton Parish Council.

  • Trimmed
hedge between Bus shelter (on Norwich side of village) and A146 refuge.
  • GRIPS (drainage) slots at side of roads in Thurton were checked
    and cleared as necessary.

Work needed to be carried out on the highways/footway in Thurton can be reported to Thurton Parish Clerk who will pass the information to the Highway Rangers for
completion in due course.

Broadband Improvements. In May last year Norfolk County Council made a successful bid to secure Government funding to help improve broadband speeds and access across Norfolk. It is hoped the better broadband project will deliver superfast broadband (30 Mb/s) for a large part of Norfolk with 2 Mb/s as a minimum. The better broadband infrastructure will start being installed in January 2013. And will be
available to everyone by March 2015. Latest news is that the County Council
will be asking residents and businesses to register their interest in receiving
the better broadband service to indicate the demand. In the new year it is said
you will be able to register your interest by visiting Norfolk County Council’s
web-site and completing an on-line form or completing a paper form or phoning
the Council’s Customer Service Centre. For more information see www.norfolk.gov.uk/broadband.
